  • Poonam Dhillon is 16, and has just got married to Jung Bahadur 20, in a remote village near Gorakhpur.
    Jung Bahadur works as a chowkidar(gatekeeper) in Delhi and comes home once or sometimes twice a year for 2 weeks. After his Gonna( wedding), he is now planning to go back to Delhi.
    His bride will stay back with his mother and help her in the fields and looking after the poultry and the cattle.
    But his young bride has big dreams of going to Delhi along with her husband and live in a big city. She cries and throws tantrums. So Jang Bahadur's mother gives an idea. That there is a Mela ( fair) happening in the nearby village and that Jung Bahadur should take her there for a day trip so she is happy.
    Poonam Dhillon gets excited and she said she will get ready and wear a new saree. She rushes to the nearby river( stream) to take bath, washes her hair and old clothes as she wears her favourite saree, which Jung Bahadur had brought for her from Delhi.
    She merrily is coming back all ready to go to the Mela, bringing back a earthen pot of fresh water from the river.
