Walking Back Home

$150.00
  • Handcrafted using handpicked genuine green, white seaglass, pebbles and drift wood from the shores of Lake Ontario with acrylics.

  • In the scene, Kamleshwari and her daughter Radha, somewhere in rural North India, return from the fields in the afternoon, collecting firewood, and utensils with them. They had brought fresh food cooked for the men tilling the fields and then had stayed back to help them in some chores.
Bearing weight on head by many rural communities across the developing world has fascinated many, including me. I was surprised to read that humans especially women have been doing this since hunter gatherer stage for many reasons- one being that they needed hands free to hold their babies, or some other stuff while multitasking. It's mostly women across the developing world, be Asia, Latin America or Africa that women have to walk miles carrying load on their heads, be it water, firewood or animal feed. Girls accompany mothers since young age and learn this art of carrying weight on the head.

  • One-of-a-kind heirloom quality conversation piece that ensures exclusivity in your art collection, with no reproductions & no prints.

  • Presented in a shadow box (12×16”) that enhances depth and allows for safe display options.
