This artwork is a tribute to Bharatnatyam. Bharatanatyam is a 2,000-year-old classical dance form originating from Tamil Nadu, South India, rooted in the ancient Natya Shastra. It combines bhava (emotion), raga (melody), and tala (rhythm) through precise footwork, intricate hand gestures (mudras), and facial expressions to narrate stories, traditionally performed by women but now practiced by all. Students of this dance form start at a very early age, and practice of decades, to learn the artform.
The dancer is made using handpicked pebbles and painted with acrylics. The frame is inspired by the Indian Master artist of Mughal era Ustad Mansoor.
