Champakali

$85.00

Habitoi silk scarf, light weight with subtle sheen
Handpainted with professional silk dyes.
Size: 18”x 57” ( 46cm x 140cm)

Motif: Champakali is a young flowergirl who lives in an urban slum in South Asia, with 2 children and her husband, who works as a labourer. She sells fresh jasmine/sumbac flower strings on traffic lights to make her ends meet. Her day begins at 5am when she goes to the flowermarket to buy fresh flowers. Then makes strings of them at home and goes to sell them in the evening. She plays a single string instrument to get attention of her buyers.

Painted with colorful and vibrant dyes. Beyond the gutta limited image of the motif, I let the dyes flow free across the silk to create unique patterns.

Steam fixed. Colors are fast. Will last your lifetime if used with tender loving care.

They are one of a kind piece. As they are neither AI designed, nor mass produced, nor screen printed, you will not find another scarf of this design.
Variations in colors in different picture are due to light effects- clicked in white light, yellow light and sunlight.

Care instructions:
Gently hand wash with soap, rinse in cold water, and let dry naturally. Iron on silk setting - do not twist or rub. Do not dryclean if gutta is used.

PS: Allow us a few days after we recieve the order, so the edges can be hand rolled.
